This publication is a compendium of speeches presented at the Foundation’s annual conference in 2014.
The Foundation chose the theme, “The New South Africa at 20: The Need for Real Transformation”, in order to adopt a positive approach to the 20th anniversary of the New South Africa – rather than a critical review of the many problems that confront South Africa. Since transformation plays such an important role in the Government’s policies – and because it is also essential for the future success of South Africa – they dedicated the conference to a discussion on “the need for real transformation”.  Read more

It is evident that crime instils fear amongst households and it may hinder their ability to engage in their day-today activities. In order to fully understand the multi-faceted dynamics of crime and the extent that it affects the society, there is a need for empirical information that will facilitate evidence based decision making. As a statistical agency, Stats SA is not directly responsible for crime prevention, but it has a mandate to provide information on the nature of crime and victimisation in South Africa.
